Police seek burglar on crutches
David Novarro reports.

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are looking for a man on crutches who broke into several apartments in Midtown Manhattan earlier this week.

The NYPD said the man got access to at least three apartments in the same building on West 56th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues) Tuesday.

Some of the victims told Eyewitness News that they believe the man faked being on crutches so that he could gain access to the building. They said their apartments were locked at the time, but the burglar left the door unlocked when he left.

According to the victims, there was no sign of forced entry into or out of the apartments.

Detectives said the thief got away with jewelry, a tablet and a laptop computer.

Police describe the man as being about 40 years old and wearing a medical boot on his foot.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to contact NYPD's Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
