Subway conductors may walk off the job due to expired masks.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City subway conductors are considering walking off the job because they say a piece of emergency protective equipment is not up to date.

A union official says the MTA has failed to replace respirator masks that expired at the end of May.

The masks are worn if there is an emergency that requires workers to lead riders to safety on subway tracks.

The MTA says it will begin taking delivery of new masks by the end of this month.
