HARLEM, N.Y. (WABC) -- A bicyclist was hit while riding in Harlem late Wednesday night.

Around 10:30 p.m. on West 145 Street, the cyclist was struck by a red Nissan Maxima, which fled the scene. Police said the victim, 63, was hit so hard that his bike was sent flying into on-coming traffic.

A driver of a minivan stopped after the van was hit by a piece of the bicycle. The bike was left mangled in the road.

Police are looking for the driver of the Maxima.

The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition. He was in surgery Thursday morning.
