Hungry? Thief takes lobsters, steaks around Manhattan

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A crafty bandit is on the run after stealing from several trucks filled with food around Manhattan.

In all the incidents, drivers were inside different businesses making deliveries when the suspect struck. The drivers found the padlocks hanging off the doors of their trucks when they returned.

On Feb. 26 and 27, the thief made off with more than $4,000 in fine fish and meats. The first two incidents were on Feb. 26.

In the first incident, in the 200 block of 56th Street the suspect took more than $2,000 in beef and game hens. In the second, on West 55th Street, more than $1,300 in assorted seafood, including black cod, 20 pounds of lobsters, 22 pounds of branzino and 10 pounds of salmon.

On Feb. 27 in a third incident, according to the New York City Police Department, the suspect took $700 worth of strip steak and stewing beef cubes from a truck parked on West 58th Street.

Police saw him pulling a cart away in one incident. The suspect possibly was working with a getaway driver.
