LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- The NYPD has made an arrest in connection with the attempted to rape of an unconscious woman in Lower Manhattan.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of Suffolk Street and Stanton Street.

Authorities say 45-year-old Sean Walker was observed taking off his pants and underwear before laying on top of the unconscious 21-year-old female victim, who was at the location and whose shorts he was attempting to remove.

When a passerby stopped to yell at the suspect, he fled the location.

The victim was taken in stable condition to Beth Israel Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police say the victim had been out drinking in the East Village before she headed home intoxicated around 1:30 a.m. She met her would-be assailant on the street, and they went into a Duane Reade on 2nd Street to get some snacks. She reportedly told investigators she didn't remember the rest.

Police say when she arrived home just a few blocks away, she passed out on her stoop. That's where authorities say that bicyclist saw Walker with his pants off on top of the woman, trying to remove her clothes.

Walker is now facing a charge of first degree sex abuse.
