LAS VEGAS -- A police officer's body camera caught the dramatic chain of events that ended in an officer shot in the neck and the suspect shot dead in Las Vegas.

The footage shows an officer pulling over 54-year-old James Todora for having a broken brake light on his Jeep Grand Cherokee around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10. As soon as the officer approaches Todora, the trouble starts.

Todora admits to having a rifle in the back seat of his car, but he doesn't say he has another gun on the passenger seat, hidden under a blanket.

Police say Todora put the gun to the officer's head and pulled the trigger - but there was no round in the chamber.

The driver was shot dead by another officer on the other side of the vehicle - but not before Todora got a shot off, striking a third officer in the neck.

Eyewitness News has learned that the officer shot in the neck is expected to recover fully.

Wednesday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police tweeted out a crime scene photo of the gun Todora had hidden under a blanket on his passenger seat.

The department said the body cam video will be studied for ways to better deal with combative and emotionally unstable suspects.
