Woman shot multiple times while sitting in car in West Babylon

NORTH BABYLON (WABC) -- A young woman was shot while she was sitting in the backseat of a car on Long Island.

Antonia Brown of Wyandanch is in critical condition after she was shot around 1:30 a.m. Saturday while sitting in a parked car on Governor Avenue in West Babylon.

While it is still early in the investigation, police do not believe she was the intended target. Investigators say Brown was in the back seat of the 2007 Toyota Scion with a male and female up front. They were reportedly visiting friends when the gunman walked up to the car and fired multiple shots. Brown was shot several times in her torso, and friends quickly drove to another location to call 911 for help.

Brown was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she underwent surgery Saturday afternoon.

The two other people inside the car were not injured.
