NYPD officer riding scooter seriously hurt in collision in the Bronx

VAN NEST, Bronx (WABC) -- An NYPD patrol officer riding a two-wheeled scooter was seriously injured when he collided with a motorist in the Bronx Sunday morning.

Police say that at 10:25 a.m., the male officer assigned to the 43rd Precinct was riding southbound on East 180th Street at East Tremont Avenue in the Van Nest section when one of the wheels of his patrol scooter was clipped by a vehicle heading north on Rosedale Avenue.

The injured officer was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is being treated for a compound fracture of the left ankle.

The motorist involved in the collision remained on the scene.

While there appears to be no criminality involved at this time, police say that the accident remains under investigation.
