Woman fatally struck in Jersey City hit and run; 1 in custody

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit and run on Routes 1 & 9 in Jersey City Wednesday morning.

The unidentified woman was struck in the southbound lanes near Sip Avenue around 4:45 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle that struck the victim fled the scene, but Jersey City police located it after another crash an unknown distance south of the initial scene.

The driver was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for unknown reasons but is said to be in custody, with charges pending.

The southbound truck lanes of 1 & 9 were closed from the Tonnelle Circle through the morning commute.
