CHELSEA (WABC) -- Flea market shopping is no longer reserved just for the weekends. In Chelsea, there's a new place to shop that's part flea market, part boutique.

You'll find a curated collection of items, and you can shop all week long.

On the western side of Chelsea Market, inside big red doors, you'll find Artists and Fleas. The popular weekend market that opened in Williamsburg ten years ago is now open everyday in Chelsea as well.

And according to one of the founders, Ronan Glimer, people are looking for this kind of shopping experience.

"There's a little bit of backlash to big stores. There's more of an interest in things that have a story," said Glimer.

But you wouldn't really call it a flea market.

"What we really are is kind of a mashup of flea market, alternative retail, multi-vendor showcase," said Glimer.

Designer Cynthia Rybakoff has sold her geology inspired jewelry at Artists and Fleas in Brooklyn for years and now sells at this location as well.

"I love talking with my customers. I'm here a lot to get the feedback, and I think for young independent designers it's the best way to grow your business," said Rybakoff.

"I draw pictures of the cartoon universe," said Ray Sumser, who used to sell on the street. But this is climate controlled. The crowds are steady, and so are sales.

"I priced the stuff pretty low so people can take it. I'm about art getting out there, which is as important as anything to me," said Sumser.

There are two dozen full-time vendors and others who rotate in for two week stretches. That gives consumers reason to return. And it may be the only market that has a live DJ! And the records are for sale too.
