Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel has signed a multiyear contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Terms of the contact were not released.

Vogel, 41, is entering his fourth full season as coach after taking over on an interim basis in January 2011. The Pacers have reached the Eastern Conference finals twice on his watch.

"I want to coach here forever," Vogel said in September.

The Pacers struggled during the second half of last season after the trade deadline, and many were calling for Vogel to be fired. However, president of basketball operations Larry Bird stood by him.

"We're very happy to extend Frank's contract," Bird said in a statement Wednesday. "I believe he has done a great job, and I look forward to continuing our relationship and working together to achieve all of our goals."

The Pacers are expected to have a difficult 2014-15 season with Paul George (broken leg, won't play this season) and Lance Stephenson (signed with Charlotte) not in the picture. The Pacers finished with the No. 1 seed in the East but lost in the conference finals to the Miami Heat.

Vogel has a career record of 147-82.
