NEW YORK -- The New York Islanders have placed defenseman Dennis Seidenberg on injured reserve due to a broken jaw and called up Scott Mayfield from Bridgeport of the AHL.
Seidenberg was hit in the face by a puck Saturday in the Islanders' 3-2 overtime loss at Florida.
Travis Hamonic, expected to be out four to six weeks with a broken bone in his hand, has returned after just one week, and the Islanders decided to go with seven defensemen and 11 forwards Monday against Tampa Bay.
Seidenberg, signed as a free agent during the preseason, had four goals and four assists in 15 games. Mayfield, making his season debut, has one goal in 11 career games for the Islanders over the previous three seasons.
