Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he would consider coaching in Major League Soccer in the future.

Pellegrini, 61, hinted that New York City FC -- City's sister club -- could be a possible destination if he were to work in North America.

The coach has spent two seasons at the Etihad Stadium and has one more year left on his contract, vowing to win back the title from Chelsea next season.

But the Chilean is one of football's globe-trotting managers, having plied his trade in five countries, and would not rule out a move to the United States.

He said at a news conference in Toronto: "You don't know what will happen in the future. It's a league that is improving, that is growing every year. We have now an important link with New York City, you never know what happens."

Pellegrini is in North America for City's postseason tour where they will play Toronto FC and Houston Dynamo, before attending a New York City FC game.

Pellegrini -- who won the Premier League and the Capital One Cup in his first season at City --says his position is secure despite ending the his second campaign with no silverware.

His future was cast into doubt when City crashed out of the Champions League during a run of six defeats in eight games that ensured their season ended in disappointment.

But while Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola remains a long-term target for City, Pellegrini said that he was never worried about being sacked as chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak, chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain gave him assurances he would remain in charge.

He said: "I have a great communication with them and I don't have any doubts even in the worst part of the season. They always give me assurances. Not just because we have finished winning."
