WEST ORANGE, N.J. (WABC) -- A major power outage at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C Friday has caused more than 100 flights cancellations and delays.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman said power went out at 4:30 a.m. Friday at Terminal C as a result of a contractor accidentally cutting through two electrical feeder cables.

Friday afternoon, Delta said about 168 mainline and connection flights were canceled as a result of the outage. Delta and the Port Authority worked to get backup generators running.

Crews are still working to get full power back on at Terminal C, and expect it to be back on by Saturday morning.

Power was restored to the terminal jet bridges as of 8:30 a.m., but some portions of Terminal C still do not have power for items like air conditioning, escalators, moving walkways and concessions.

"While Delta anticipates a relatively quick recovery now that power has been restored, customers are still encouraged to check the status of their flights using the Fly Delta app or delta.com before heading to the airport," said Delta in a news release.

Delta said affected customers with tickets for July 24 and 25 at all New York City-area airports (LaGuardia, JFK, Newark Liberty, Stewart-Newburgh and White Plains) can make changes to their trips with out change fees through July 28.

Terminal C serves Delta Airlines and US Airways.

Delta said no one was hurt in the incident.
