23 vehicles involved in massive chain-reaction pileup in Orange County
Marcus Solis has the details from Greenville on the accident that sent 10 people to the hospital.

GREENVILLE, N.Y. (WABC) -- Traffic on I-84 westbound remained at a crawl hours after a massive pileup Wednesday morning in the Orange County town of Greenville.

The accidents happened at about 7:15 a.m. on I-84 westbound between Exits 1 and 2.

New York State Police say 10 commercial vehicles and 13 passenger vehicles were involved.

10 people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

The investigation also revealed the incident involved five separate accidents.

The initial crash involved six vehicles, three commercial and three passenger. Authorities say the accident started when a commercial vehicle driver in the right lane applied his brakes and slid into the right guide rail, causing a chain reaction of additional incidents.

The second incident involved five commercial and two passenger vehicles, including a New York Department of Transportation plow truck.

The third incident involved three passenger vehicles.

The fourth involved two commercial and two passenger vehicles.

The fifth and final incident involved three cars, all passenger vehicles.

All of these incidents occurred in an inactive work zone with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph.
