NEW YORK -- A judge says the ride-sharing app Lyft has to meet certain requirements before operating in New York City.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission must approve Lyft's app and dispatch operators.

The judge said Friday she'll issue a temporary restraining order barring Lyft from operating if it doesn't meet the conditions by July 25.

Company and state officials agreed Lyft could keep functioning in Rochester and Buffalo if it provided information on acceptable insurance carriers by the end of the business day on Friday.

It then must prove that its drivers will have adequate coverage.

A Lyft spokeswoman says the company has had productive discussions this week with New York City regulators and will complete the approval process to operate in the city as soon as possible.
