NEW ROCHELLE, Westchester County (WABC) -- A suspect is in custody in Westchester County after a frightening home invasion that involved a confrontation with the homeowner.

The incident happened on Davenport Avenue in New Rochelle around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the victim came home and found a man, approximately 19 years old, on the second floor. The man told the homeowner he hurt his hand while breaking in, and the victim responded that she was going to call the police and her husband. Upon hearing this, the male exited and fled in an unknown direction.

"There was no altercation," New Rochelle police Captain Robert Gazzola said. "It seemed at this point it was just some kind of conversation. We suspect he was in there to commit a burglary. However, at this point, the homeowner hasn't noticed if anything was missing."

Authorities say the person in custody was found in another homeowner's backyard. Still, the investigation is active and ongoing.

The woman was not hurt.
