Earthquake hits Northern New Jersey overnight

Ringwood, New Jersey feels earthquake early Saturday morning

RINGWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- Northern New Jersey felt a rumble Saturday morning after it was hit with an earthquake.

At 1 a.m., a minor earthquake, rating 2.1 on the Richter Scale, according to the United States Geological Survey, was reported throughout most of Ringwood in Passaic County.

Police received about 50 reports from all over the 27-square mile town.

The earthquake was classified as weak to light.

It occurred about 5 miles under the ground. Ringwood is on the Ramapo Fault line, one of the oldest and longest fault lines on Earth.

No damage was reported.
