MARINERS HARBOR, Staten Island (WABC) -- A 2- to 3-foot alligator was found in a bathtub by police responding to a burglary report on Staten Island Tuesday night.

The officers were called the Bush Avenue home in Mariners Harbor on a possible break-in at around 7:30 p.m.

No one was home, but officers found a door open.

They went into the bathroom and were surprised to see an alligator in the bathtub.

Emergency Services Unit officers grabbed the gator and turned it over to Animal Care and Control

The alligator appears to have been illegally kept as a pet. No charges were filed against the homeowner.
