Teen shot while attending vigil for gun victim speaks out from hospital bed

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A teenager from Brooklyn is fighting back after a shooting left her critically injured.

Princess Lindow, 16, was hit in the lower back while praying one week ago at a vigil for a classmate who was fatally shot earlier this year.

Now, she's speaking out about her difficult recovery as police search for the gunmen.

"Everybody scattered and started running but me," she said. "I tried to run, but then my legs started getting numb."

Lindow was recounting the terrifying moments last Monday night, when gunfire broke out at the Marcy Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, from her hospital bed at Woodhull Medical Center.

"I didn't feel the bullet go inside," she said. "I just felt my leg going numb."

The bullet entered her back on her right side, piercing all the way through to the other side of her body.

After several surgeries, she is still having trouble walking and lacks full movement and feeling in her legs.

Her father said at one point doctors thought Princess wasn't going to make it.

"You want to believe it will never happen to you," Prince Lindow said. "You want to believe you will never be in this position. And now, you feel like what a whole lot parents feel, brothers and sisters. It's not easy. It's not easy right now."

No arrests have been made in the shooting, which police believe was gang related. Princess Lindow does not know when she will be well enough to leave the hospital.
