NORTH BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police in North Brunswick are warning residents about a burglary spree that's taken place over the last several weeks.

Officials say a suspect has entered several homes during overnight hours, while people were inside and sleeping, and burglarized them.

The homes were all located in the area of Georges Road and Route 130.

Police say the suspect has gotten away with alcohol and car keys, even stealing several cars and getting away with it in most cases. In one incident, there were 11 people asleep inside at the time of the burglary.

Authorities say no residents haven woken up or came in contact with the suspect, but they fear what could happen should either of those things occur.

"We're asking people to not confront the suspect, first of all," North Brunswick Police Captain Brian Hoiberg said. "If you find him in your home, if you hear something, please call 911 right away. Do not confront the individual. That is something we definitely do not want."

Officials urge residents to lock all of their doors and first-floor windows during late hours and pay close attention to any suspicious noises they hear.

"We are following a couple of leads right now that I don't want to really get into, but we do have a couple of things we're looking into," Hoiberg said.

Many of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Brunswick Police Department at 732-247-0922.
