JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Jersey City is commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the line-of-duty deaths of two police officers.

Officers Shawn Carson and Robert Nguyen died on Christmas night in 2005 when their vehicle plunged from the open drawbridge on the Lincoln Highway into the Hackensack River while responding to a call.

Jersey City Police Department officials held a memorial service Friday.

Carson and Nguyen, members of the Emergency Service Unit, were unaware the drawbridge was open at the time.

In 2007, the bridge was renamed in their honor.

The annual memorial service consisted of dozens of officers observing a minute of silence at 8:04 p.m., the time when the officers died, and a wreath laying.
