FLUSHING, Queens (WABC) -- Three TSA workers were treated after they were exposed to an irritating food material while inspecting a bag at a LaGuardia airport security checkpoint Wednesday.

Just before 6 a.m., the agents had a bad reaction to the material, which was in a carry-on bag at Terminal B, Concourse D.

Their checkpoint was closed for 40 minutes while they were evaluated. It reopened at 6:26 a.m.

The bag alarmed at the checkpoint and was opened for inspection. Out of an abundance of caution, the Port Authority Police Department was notified.

After an investigation, a Port Authority spokesperson said it was identified as a food product and the concourse was reopened.

The three were evaluated at the terminal. Minor injuries may have included eye irritation.

Traffic already was delayed by a car crash on the westbound Grand Central Parkway, in front of the airport.

The emergency response is causing traffic delays approaching at Terminal B.
