NEW YORK -- Police have cleared a suspicious package found at Penn Station, and service to and from the hub is being restored.
Long Island Railroad, Amtrak and New Jersey Transit service was suspended into and out of Penn Station. All New York City subways also were bypassing Penn.
Officials stopped all trains coming in or out of Penn until the package was cleared.
An MTA police canine unit picked up a scent on an unattended package on the platform between Tracks 15 and 16. As a precaution, the area was evacuated. People are now being let into the station.
The New York City Police Department Bomb Squad was called in to inspect the package.
