Hochul urges caution ahead of heavy rain and flash flooding
Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to exercise caution ahead of storms that could bring heavy rain to the area through 2 a.m. Friday.
Rainfall rates of 2 to 2.5 inches per hour are possible and could lead to flash flooding.
Severe thunderstorms are also forecast, with potential for damage from strong winds. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
"Flooding can occur quickly and unexpectedly and New Yorkers should monitor their local forecast to stay prepared ahead of heavy rain," Governor Hochul said. "Sign up for emergency alerts and make sure you never drive through standing water - remember, turn around, don't drown."
