NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police in Newark are looking for the gunman who killed a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman on Saturday night.

Gunfire rang out on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

The sheer volume of shots fired had people ducking for cover.

At least 17 evidence markers could be spotted as police bombarded the area.

Bullets hit five people.

The 10-year-old and the 21-year-old victims were pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Three other victims, an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man remained in the hospital in stable condition on Sunday morning.

Mayor Ras Baraka is urging the shooter to surrender to the police.

The Essex County Sheriff's Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case.

Lamont Vaughn of the Newark Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery has seen too many families deal with this pain.

"It's not something that is treated with one dose of medicine. It's a multilayered approach that has to happen. And it takes the community, it takes the government, it takes the business community. It takes the parents, the residents -- it takes everybody," Vaughn said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will remain confidential.
