5 people set to win Knicks-themed trash cans from the sanitation department
NEW YORK (WABC) -- One person's trash becomes another's treasure Friday in Manhattan.
The New York City Department of Sanitation will present five lucky people with Knicks-themed litter baskets in Hell's Kitchen.
The winners were selected from a lottery announced last month that had more than 125,000 entries.
The blue and orange waste baskets, like the redesigned subway stations, became symbols of the knicks' success during their NBA championship run that ended with a victory over the San Antonio spurs.
Friday afternoon's giveaway came about when a video after the championship parade showed one fan dumping trash out on the street and walking away with the bin.
That woman was later fined by the city, forced to return the bin, and was fired from her job at JP Morgan Chase.
