March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb, and we're all waiting for this weather to get better. But when it comes to shopping, March is filled with discounts right out of the gate. Especially if you're hungry and your wallet's light!
On St. Patrick's Day, the Irish Saint spreads leprechaun luck to anyone looking for discounts.
Wearing festive green will be rewarded with freebies like free shakes, food, and coupons at fast food and favorite eateries, so mark your calendars for March 17th and see who's in on the shamrock action.
Speaking of green, how about getting jolly with some giant savings and stocking up on frozen peas or beans, since March is the national frozen food month.
Consumer expert Andrea Woroch has some tips to keep your pot of gold filled.
"You're looking at the cut green beans that are frozen for $1.19 for frozen and the fresh is $2.79, it's the same amount but obviously a huge savings," she said.
Here's another hack-- compare the price to how much is in the package.
"The name brand is only 10 oz, and the Target brand is 12 oz, so you're actually getting less and paying more," Woroch said.
You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with unsold Valentine's Day candies, usually on clearance this time of year.
It's also time to stock up and save on winter apparel; boots, coats, gloves, and scarves will begin getting marked down.
So will winter sports gear like skis and snowboards.
With the US men's and women's teams bringing home the Olympic gold, girls and boys are eager to get on the ice. Skates and sticks will be on sale -- suitcases too! We are in shoulder season, the time between holiday travel and spring break, so look for luggage to be on sale.
And Pi Day is approaching, the constant number celebrating the circle's circumference to its diameter is 3.14, so on March 14th, anything round, from pies to pizza, will be on special.
More than a dozen retailers, from bagels to bakeries, will be in on the Pi Day action this year.
