MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Move over Monet, New York's latest art exhibit is going to the dogs.
At the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog, some of the world's most famous masterpieces are getting a furry, yet foodie-inspired makeover. Think works of art recreated entirely out of dog kibble.
You'll find the art inside the museum located on 40th Street just off Park.
Sisters, Lauren and Samantha Treadwell, from Old Bridge, New Jersey, created the pieces, partnering with Royal Canin.
The ladies chose the classic images from a long list and used stucco and polyurethane to keep things in place and preserved.
"We're painters, this was kind of like the learning curve of like how mosaic artists use glass and break and move it into different pieces and make different shapes," Samantha Treadwell said.
Christopher Bromson runs the museum. He described getting the call about the project called "The Art of Breed."
"She sent me pictures of half-done kibble on a board and I said, 'I'm sorry can we hop on the phone, what is this?'" Bromson said.
He admitted they were barking up the right tree.
"The best surprise one could have ever hoped for," Bromson said.
As for those who may question the choice of material, Lauren and Samantha stand by the kibble.
"In any form it should be respected, this is just us respecting and showing tribute to those artists," Lauren Treadwell said.
It took 60 days to make the pieces. Their dog Charlie, not surprisingly, stayed close.
"He wanted the food. He would look at us and be like, 'can I have a little,' with those puppy eyes," Samantha Treadwell said.
The exhibit will be open through June 9.
