NEW YORK (WABC) -- Thousands of bulletproof vests are going to local cops one a week after a detective's life was saved by one.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that they would be getting vests to cops across the state.
The first 4,000 vests are going to cops in New York City, and Long Island.
Money seized from criminals will cover half of the cost after the federal government cut funding.
Last Monday, Detective Mario Muniz was shot by a fugitive in Greenwich Village but survived because of his vest.
