Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park hosts annual tree lighting to ring in holiday season

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Crowds of people gathered to ring in the holiday season during the annual tree lighting at the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park on Tuesday night.

The event included a spectacular show featuring fireworks going off behind the giant spruce and costumed skaters on the giant ice rink.

Actor and chef David Burtka hosted the festivities, while Tony Award winner Matt Doyle made a special guest appearance.

This year's tree at Bryant Park stands 45 feet tall and weighs more than 8,000 pounds. It is decorated with over 1,200 oversized ornaments and about 12,000 lights.

"I work right across the street, so just to look out every day and see this tree lit makes you happy. There's just holiday excitement and cheer around this tree," said Connie Verducci, marketing executive at Bank of America.

The winter village, which features eateries, shops and the skating rink, will be open to the public through March 2.
