
PERTH AMBOY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A child was killed in a house fire in Perth Amboy on Friday morning.
The fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. at a residence on Chauncey Street.
Two individuals suffered burn injuries and were taken by helicopter to a burn center for treatment.
Officials said later Friday that one juvenile died as a result of the fire.
The age of the child was not yet clear.
Additionally, a firefighter, police officer and civilian all suffered minor injuries. All have since been treated and released.
"This is a devastating loss for a family and for our community," said Mayor Helmin J. Caba. "On behalf of the City of Perth Amboy, I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. I want to thank our police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and mutual aid partners who responded to the scene and worked tirelessly under difficult circumstances. As we continue to learn more, I ask our community to keep the family in their thoughts and respect their privacy during this painful time."
The cause and circumstances of the fire are under investigation.
