A 28-year-old Brooklyn woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Sunset Park has died from her injuries, police said.

The victim was identified as Jiayi Zheng, who lived on 55th Street. According to police, Zheng was struck shortly before 7:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of 55th Street and Third Avenue.

Investigators said a black Cadillac traveling southbound on Third Avenue hit Zheng as she crossed the street. She suffered severe body trauma and was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital, where she later died.

The driver fled the scene and remained at large as of Sunday.

State Sen. Andrew Gounardes said Zheng was a nurse who had just finished working an overnight shift when she was struck. In a social media post announcing her death, Gounardes said she was "coming off the night shift" and urged the community to keep her family in their prayers.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is urged to contact police.
