LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- NYPD officers are searching for several people after Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was punched in the lobby of a Lower East Side hotel.

Hickman was attacked by four people he encountered in the lobby of the SIXTY LES hotel on Allen Street at around 4:30 a.m.

The group recognized him, and when Hickman apparently did not acknowledge them, they started punching him.

They then ran off and are being sought.

The 24-year-old Hickman was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be checked out.

Hickman played at Ohio State University and attended DePaul Catholic High School in Passaic, where he was a standout.
