1 worker dead after trench collapse in Brooklyn

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- One worker has died after two were rescued from a collapsed trench at a construction site in Brooklyn on Thursday.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. at 174 Jefferson St. between Wilson Avenue and Central Avenue in Bushwick, where a two-story dwelling was under foundation work.

Inspectors say a portion of the rubble foundation had collapsed, trapping two workers.

They were rescued by FDNY units, and taken to the hospital.

One of the workers died from their injuries, according to the NYPD.

The Buildings Department said there was a permit for work at the site.

The incident is under investigation.
