'Dear New York' exhibit by HONY creator tells people's stories at Grand Central
MANHATTAN (WABC) -- If you find yourself commuting in and out of Grand Central Terminal or catching the subway there, take a moment to look around.
For the first time in living memory, every advertisement has been cleared. They have been replaced by "Dear New York," an art installation from the creator of Humans of New York, Brandon Stanton.
More than 150 digital screens now showcase portraits from his archive, 50-foot projections of New Yorkers and their stories.
Down in the subway, the walls have been transformed into gallery space.
Stanton says it's a visual love letter to this city.
"What it is, is it's people. It's people and their stories and my goal was, there are 750,000 people who pass through here every day and I just wanted to, you can't really in Grand Central tell a long story to somebody, but I wanted each person to experience something that might make them think or feel something or have a moment of reflection and I think we've done that," Stanton said.
This coincides with Stanton's new book, "Dear New York," which for the duration of this popup he's donating proceeds to New York City charities.
"Dear New York" runs through Oct. 19 at Grand Central Terminal.
