9 injured after escalator malfunction at Broadway theater where 'Wicked' is performing

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Nine people were hospitalized with minor injuries after an escalator malfunctioned Broadway's Gershwin Theatre on Wednesday.

Fire officials say the incident happened around 5:15 p.m. at 222 W. 51st Street, the Broadway theater where the musical "Wicked" plays at.

The FDNY says all the injuries were minor.

There's no word yet on what caused the escalator malfunction.
