WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WABC) -- The mayor of West Haven is speaking out after a family in his town who traveled to West Africa was placed under mandatory quarantine.

The family of six was screened at JFK Airport four days ago and voluntarily isolated themselves.

Wednesday, under the governor's orders, they were officially banned from leaving their house for 21 days.

West Haven's mayor says the family shows no symptoms and the quarantine is just a precaution.

"There's a police officer there, they're in contact with the health department, they have to check in on them twice a day," West Haven Mayor Edward O' Brien said.

Connecticut health officials say three other people in the state are also under a quarantine order as well and are being monitored.
