Five people injured after fire tears through Washington Heights apartment building

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) -- Nine people were injured, including three firefighters, after a fire tore through a six-story apartment building in Washington Heights.

It happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday on Fort Washington Avenue Near 164th Street. Flames eventually spread to the fifth and sixth floors along with the roof.

All of the injuries were minor. The victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
