NEW YORK (WABC) -- More than 500 flights have been cancelled and over 4,000 delayed due to weather and air traffic control staffing constraints in the New York area.
The FAA says it's slowing flights into John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport because of weather and the staffing constraints at the air traffic control facility that handles the flights at these airports.

Ground delays and stops are expected to be seen on and off through the evening at these airports.
A ground stop means some or all flights departing for that airport are held at their origin until the ground stop is lifted. A ground delay means flights can still depart for the specific airport but are delayed departing their origin and issued a specific takeoff time in order to keep planes spaced out. It prevents traffic jams in the air and keeps planes from circling in the air as they wait to land.
You can find the latest flight delays and cancellations on the Flight Aware website, and the latest FAA advisories and ground stops on their website.
