HOBOKEN (WABC) -- Picking up after your dog is an important and legally required responsibility for pet owners.
During the blizzard, not everyone complied.
It has become enough of an issue in Hoboken that the Mayor released a PSA reminding people that snow melts, but dog waste does not.
'And this is a PSA that I cannot believe I am making. Hoboken, we really need you to clean up your dog's sh**," Emily Jabbour said in a video on social media.
Jabbour says it appears that dog owners forgot their etiquette.
"We have a few hotspots in town that we're paying attention to, but it was pretty widespread. That's why we decided to take it to the next level and do a public service announcement," Jabbour said.
Residents say there is so much doggy defecation that you have to watch where you are walking.
There is now an Instagram page to report offenders, along with a fine of up to $2,000.
The city has 80 pet stations where dog owners can get a plastic bag and 500 public garbage cans.
