
LACEY TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WABC) -- An investigation is underway into a deadly police-involved shooting in Ocean County, New Jersey on Monday.
Officials say Lacey Township police officers responded to a home on Hemlock Drive in Lanoka Harbor shortly after 2 a.m., in response to a 911 call reporting a medical event.
The Attorney General's Office says during an encounter with the civilian caller outside the home around 2:45 a.m., one officer fired his weapon, striking the woman.
A law enforcement source told Eyewitness News that the woman came at an officer with a knife, and she was shot and killed.
A knife was recovered at the scene outside the home.
One police officer was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment for a non-life-threatening injury. Police say there were several additional officers on scene that did not suffer any injuries.
The Attorney General's Office is investigating the shooting.
