Swimmer in critical condition after being rescued from waters off Long Beach

LONG BEACH, New York (WABC) -- A man is in critical condition after being rescued from the waters off Long Beach on Tuesday.

Long Beach Police received a 9-11 call of a swimmer in distress shortly after 5 p.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 27-year-old man in the water.

They were able to rescue the victim and transported him to a nearby hospital.

The victim is in critical condition.

No lifeguards were on duty at the time since it's after Labor Day.
