Man attacked with meat cleaver during suspected road rage incident in Queens
COLLEGE POINT, Queens (WABC) -- A 47-year-old man was stabbed multiple times during a suspected road rage incident in Queens on Thursday morning.
The man was attacked at 126th Street and 26th Avenue in College Point just after 5:35 a.m.
Detectives say the stabbing started with an argument and crash between the drivers of a white Toyota Sienna minivan and a white Honda CRV.
The incident apparently escalated to a violent attack on the driver of the minivan.
The victim was stabbed in the head, arm and chest with a meat cleaver. He was taken to New York Presbyterian Queens, where he is in stable condition.
Construction worker Michael Mattera of Long Beach was pulling into work on 26th Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. and said at first he thought the victim was dead.
"I see the guy with his head on the ground, I'm thinking one of our guys maybe hit him... I'm thinking maybe he got hit by a car, next thing you know ambulance shows up, the guy's head is split open," Mattera said.
Police say the victim is a 47-year-old man from Staten Island.
Mattera said his two coworkers who arrived minutes earlier intervened and called police.
"My buddy who he thought it was just a fight and ran outside and intervened and was like, 'yo yo yo get off him, get off him' and thank god he did that otherwise the guy would've just kept hacking," Mattera said.
Mattera said the attacker took off in his Honda CRV before dumping it about two blocks away.
Police are still canvassing the area and looking for possible surveillance video.
No arrests have been made.
