FLUSHING, Queens (WABC) -- Police have charged a man accused of fatally stabbing his mother-in-law and injuring his teenage brother-in-law at their home in Queens.
Weisheng Chen, 27, is charged with six counts of murder in connection with the deadly stabbing. He is also charged with arson, criminal possession of a weapon and assault.
NewsCopter 7 was over the scene on Thursday at the multi-family home on Smart Street between 45th Avenue and Holly Avenue in Flushing.
Police say Chen allegedly stabbed his 50-year-old mother-in-law in the abdomen, killing her. He then allegedly stabbed his 17-year-old brother-in-law multiple times, officials said.
First responders transported the mother-in-law to the hospital, where she later died. The 17-year-old victim was also taken to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Two siblings, who wished not to be identified and live in the basement of the home, told Eyewitness News that their cousin's husband was the suspect. They say he stabbed the two, including the 50-year-old woman who is the siblings' aunt, in their first-floor home before allegedly setting a back room on fire.
Authorities say Chen slashed his wrists after setting the fire. He was taken into custody in critical condition.
At least eight firefighters suffered smoke inhalation while responding to the fire.
