MASSAPEQUA, Long Island -- A 28-year-old Massapequa man was stabbed in the basement of his parents' Beaumont Avenue home, left bleeding to death in his father's arms, Nassau police said on Tuesday.
Kristin Sculley, 22, also a Massapequa resident, was described as an "acquaintance" of the victim and was later found hiding in the home. Friends identified the victim is Bobby Carragher.
Sculley was charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned later today.
He "died in his father's arms," said Nassau Det. Lt. George Darienzo. "No family should ever have to bear witness to their son being killed in that manner."
"We believe the suspect in this case became angry towards our victim and stabbed him in the neck while he lay sleeping in bed," Darienzo continued. "He climbed the stairs to seek the assistance of his mother, screaming. His mother and father came to his aid. They attempted to control that bleeding in the kitchen. At some point, her son became unresponsive."
Sculley was later found hiding in the house's lower level. Police say she had a pocketknife that is believed to be the murder weapon.
Darienzo said that the victim and suspect knew each other "for several years" and were friends. It wasn't clear if they had a romantic relationship.
When asked about drugs being involved with the investigation, Darienzo said "we have evidence that there may have been some drug use but no drugs at the time that we are aware of were in the home."
The victim has no criminal record.
"Theres not much you can say. An innocent life was taken. Bobby lit up every room he walked into," said friend Louis Ambrosio. "It's disturbing that the room I hung out with my friend, he was murdered in his sleep, it's just not right."
