The NBA Finals are finally here! And, with one of the most anticipated matchups in recent memory, featuring the next generational player of the league in Victor Wembanyama leading his San Antonio Spurs against one of the anchor franchises in the New York Knicks, who haven'twon a championship in more than half a century.
This is a rematch of this season's NBA Cup final, in which the Knicks defeated the Spurs to win the championship.
It is alsoa rematch between the same two franchises that played the 1999 NBA Finals, when Tim Duncan's Spurs defeated Patrick Ewing's Knicks to win the first of San Antonio's five championships. That was the last time the Knicks played in the Finals.
NBA history is on the line. Legacies are on the line. But what do we expect the action to look like on the court? Particularly in Game 1?
I'm glad you asked.
In this space, as we've done all season, let's dig into the matchup to identify some betting angles and some fantasy plays of interest. It's time to play for all the marbles.
Mikal Bridges to score 15+ points (-126): In his last nine playoffs games, including games against three different franchises, Bridges has averaged 18.7 PPG while scoring at least 15 points in all nine games. He is taking advantage of the good looks he gets when opponents focus more on Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. Bridges also produced well in his last game against the Spurs this season, the only one in calendar year 2026, when he scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field.
Victor Wembanyama 12+ rebounds (-127): Wembanyama has dominated the glass during portions of the playoffs, depending largely upon the matchup and what the Spurs required of him. After returning from concussion against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round, Wembanyama grabbed 12 or more rebounds in eight of his next 10 games up through Game 2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The two exceptions were the game he was ejected in the first half and the closeout game against Minnesota in which the Spurs dominated and Wemby played fewer minutes. He averaged 13.9 RPG in that span, 16.1 RPG in the eight games where he grabbed at least 12. Wemby focused more on scoring than rebounds in the last four games of the Thunder series, averaging 25.8 PPG and 7.0 RPG, but that was an exception to how he normally plays. Wemby should return to his rebounding ways against the Knicks. In his two starts against them this season, he grabbed 13 boards in both games.
$8,100+ salaries
Victor Wembanyama, C, Spurs ($12,600): Wembanyama is the highest-priced player on the board for good reason. His fantasy per-game averages are almost 10 points higher than any other player in the series, and he has more explosive upside in any given game than any other player.
$6,100-$8,000 salaries
OG Anunoby, PF, Knicks ($7,200): Anunoby has been a consistent 35+ FP/G scorer when healthy in these playoffs, with upside over 50 FP/G. After his week-plus of rest, Anunoby should be as fresh and healthy as he's been since before his injury.
Mikal Bridges, SF, Knicks ($6,600): Bridges has been a consistent fantasy points producer in the last several weeks, notching more than 25 fantasy points in nine straight games with more than 29 fantasy points in eight of those nine.
$1,500-$5,900 salaries
Dylan Harper, PG/SG, Spurs ($5,400): Harper bounced back after his adductor injury to produce 32 and 25.2 fantasy points in the last two games of the Conference finals. The Spurs will likely continue to rely on him as much as he can handle in this series, particularly with De'Aaron Fox still battling a high ankle sprain.
