TRENTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said on Wednesday that the state will do everything possible to defend residents' constitutional rights and protect public safety.
She signed a three-part executive order in Trenton that she says is necessary to keep President Donald Trump from turning law enforcement agencies into militia.

"I have seen what unaccountable militias look like and the fear and danger they spread," Gov. Sherrill said.
On Tuesday, federal immigration agents opened fire in Roxbury Township while taking a man into custody.
DHS called the man, identified as Jesus Fabian Lopez, as "a criminal alien from Honduras," and accused him oof drug and DUI charges, and that a judge in 2021, ordered him removed from the U.S.
While officials investigate, Sherrill said ICE agents will be banned from state property.
"That means no ICE staging areas, no processing locations, no operating bases, no federal civil immigration actions run from any state grounds, not our parks, not our roadways, not our buildings," Sherrill said.
Second, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office is launching a portal where people can upload videos of ICE interactions they see in the state.
Finally, the state is launching a new website to make sure people know their constitutional rights when interacting with federal agents.
