National Weather Service surveying 2 possible tornadoes in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- The National Weather Service will survey two possible tornadoes in New Jersey, one near Stanhope and the other 20 miles to the east in Troy Hills.

Around 3:30 p.m. many people in Morris and Passaic counties heard the emergency alert go off on their phones where two potential tornadoes touched down.

"I seen something that look almost like a tornado about to come down, but then it just stayed up. I didn't come all the way down it just stayed up," witness Adam Wilson said.

An ominous thick cloud was seen swirling over a building near Troy Hills Village apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon.

"It was about to pour down and pour down. It didn't pour down yet. Yeah, it was a big cloud at the time, but it looked like a little swirl about to come down. But it didn't stay up. You didn't have to start raining hard," Wilson said.

Near Highway 46 in Parsippany, a possible tornado was spotted less than a mile away near a golf center.

"I was getting alerts on my phone, so I went down to the building to wait for my husband, who was picking me up. He just came back from work and there. Yeah, everybody was, like, in the, hallway. And they were in the lobby because they were, I guess, scared," Fairfield resident, Sabrina Petruccelli said.

Another possible tornado touched down during the afternoon storms in Stanhope.

Eyewitness News' Toni Yates was on the ground just minutes after it came through the area.

There were many videos of funnel cloud formations in areas like Pine Brook, Ridgefield Park and Willowbrook Mall in Wayne.

The National Weather Service will be on the ground in Stanhope and Parsippany to survey the damage from the two possible tornadoes.
