PATERSON (WABC) -- Paterson's next mayor was the victim of a home burglary while he celebrated his victory on Election Night Tuesday.
Police are not sure if the burglars knew they were targeting Mayor-Elect Joey Torres or whether the heist was just a coincidence.
Torres said the burglars got into his house through a side window and made off with some sentimental items belonging to his wife.
He added that he doesn't want to be treated any differently than anyone else who was the victim of a burglary.
This is not the first time a Paterson mayor has been a victim of such a crime. Mayor Jeffery Jones' Marine Corps ring was stolen during a burglary in 2001.
